Volunteers
Volunteering with The Oakville Strokers is a great opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life, be part of a team, share your experience, learn new skills, have fun and develop lasting friendships.
We greatly value, and rely on, our volunteers who together make The Oakville Strokers a success.
There are lots of ways that volunteers can be involved, depending on their available time and expertise:
socialize with stroke survivors
work with stroke survivors in the pool
facilitate lunch and social time in the Community Room
play cards and board games, organize arts and crafts
attend excursions
No specialized expertise is needed.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, you will have to complete an Application Form and Emergency Contact form. A Police Vulnerable Sector check will also be required. Please contact us and we will email you the appropriate documentation.
“I thought it was a wonderful idea for stroke survivors to not only get together for some exercise and social time in the pool but to have a getaway and break from the daily routine. I have been really enjoying many years volunteering. It is so satisfying to be able to meet new people and to have some camaraderie and exercise together. Even when we aren't in the pool, we have a cohesive group that actively finds ways to connect in other ways and to keep spirits up.”
